Our company is built on remarkable people, trusted by clients to design, build and advance the world.
Jennifer Walters is a Remarkable on our Houston team. She serves as the Delivery Manager for Wood’s Project Management Academy (PMA), assisting in the delivery, facilitation, coordination, and gathering of subject matter experts to deliver high quality and dynamic learning courses to our employees. Her passion for nurturing others extends far beyond our offices, as she also runs GoldColt Rescue- a non-profit focused on rehabilitating abused and neglected animals and helping them find loving forever-homes.
Be open to opportunities
I began my career at Wood in 2018 as a Project Information Manager working on offshore programs while completing my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Now, I'm a training partner for Project Management Institute (PMI) through Wood, working to grow the PMA and create a foundation which has been the gateway for substantial growth in employee learning opportunities. If there’s an opportunity to grow, then you should always go for it. Why not?
Be inspired
The interactions I have each day with my colleagues are what inspire me most in my job. I love the whole project process and the execution, working in teams, working with people, and delivering quality results that satisfy stakeholders- all those interactions. I also enjoy teaching. I love training people, but I also love the engagement, the mentoring, and the coaching. Through PMA, I’m able to utilize all these passions and reach an extensive audience that’s worldwide. It's been a great experience being able to work with subject matter experts across the industry and the globe. I’ve personally learned so much and it has helped me grow as well.
Be an advocate
I love seeing my work come to life, facilitating professional growth for my teams and colleagues. This is a passion of mine that extends beyond the office. It’s a passion that stems from my childhood.
I have always loved animals, and I was privileged enough to become involved in horse training at a pretty young age. My passion evolved from there. I saw a need for advocates of unwanted horses, those that are subject to abuse and neglect. It has a place in my heart, so I created a home where I could invite these animals in and see them through a healing and learning process to give them a happier beginning to a whole new life, ultimately matching them with healthy, happy long-term homes and owners that will love them forever.
From this passion, I founded GoldColt Rescue. Through GoldColt, I aim to educate and advocate for animals in need, inviting the public in to be inspired. Visitors can learn about horses, their proper care, and ownership, helping them make an educated and informed decision before committing. Alongside my large and miniature horses, I care for two dogs at my ranch. I also have two emus who have gone TikTok viral! By sharing their stories on social media, I hope to inspire others and encourage donations that go straight back into the care, wellbeing, and rescue of our animals in need.
Be an educator
I guess you could say I love helping people learn. I love providing personal learning opportunities to the public through GoldColt, just as much as I love providing professional learning opportunities to our people at Wood through PMA. As we continue to grow and bring on new talent, I’m excited to work on the creation of many new PMA Courses that detail project delivery best practices and the Wood Way for employees.
The sky's the limit, I think, as far as where we can go with PMA. I may even venture out beyond that, applying what I've learned in PMA to our projects and continuing to be an advocate for learning and development of our people. I just love it.
Designing the Future
Designing the future is going to start with really engaging the future. That means all our incoming personnel, incoming talent, new graduates, and those that are inspired to lead - really focusing in on their potential, investing in them through learning and development opportunities, and helping build their confidence so they can grow within our company. I believe this is the foundation that will foster our inspired culture, providing the right resources and a sense of adventure to those who join us.
Like I said, the sky is the limit, and I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow together!
