Meet Damilola Abe, a riser systems commissioning engineer based in Texas, United States. Damilola has been at Wood for 11 months and enjoys the varied work and fast pace required to deliver for his clients. He is also at the helm of Launch, Wood’s early careers network in Houston. As a group committed to driving positive culture, Launch actively supports graduate recruitment within Wood.
For me, it’s been an incredibly fun experience since I joined the company. I’ve worked with several different teams and been exposed to a lot of new tasks. The fact you have to learn quickly makes my team contribution much more fulfilling. I started out with the riser team and have also supported the drilling team on several projects too. When I transitioned to the subsea digitalisation group, I was involved with the creation of a client application, a real game changer for them!
At the moment I am assisting on various commissioning and pre-commissioning projects for a major client. Working with engineers from various subsea disciplines is exciting because I get to experience a broad overview, seeing first-hand what goes into starting a production line; being involved through to completion and finally handing it over to the operations team.
The people at Wood make the difference. We celebrate our wins and work together to solve a challenge. Everyone brings their expertise to help you even though they are not directly involved in the project. It’s a great team and I get to learn from everyone!
As a young engineer, I’m happy that Wood is equipping me with all I need to be the best. Also, I like that I’m not only being trained to be excellent in technical terms, but I’m also being supported with the skills to be a leader as I grow in my career. One day I would like to lead a multinational company.
I really enjoy travel, seeing new places and reading about history and when I get the chance, I enjoy long walks in the park.
